First Light Solar - Run For The Sun

Asheville, N.C., March 30, 2010 – First Light Solar will host its first annual Run for the Sun 8K special event on Saturday, May 8 at 8 a.m.  The event will take place at Carrier Park on Amboy Road in Asheville, N.C.  The cost is $25 per person with proceeds benefiting the Western North Carolina Green Building Council.

“The purpose of this event is to celebrate and spread the word about solar energy,” says Grant Gosch, director of First Light Solar.  “We partnered with the WNC Green Building Council because they have been steadfast supporters of energy efficiency and clean energy in Western North Carolina since 2001.  They are a wonderful, hard-working group that deserves recognition and support,” says Gosch.

Matt Siegel, director of the WNC Green Building Council, is excited about the partnership and has earmarked race proceeds for a special community project.  “The money raised by the Run for the Sun 8K event will fund the installation of a photovoltaic system to be used for lighting and water pump station for the new Pearson Street Community Garden Project,” says Siegel.  “It’s really great to see a for-profit business stepping up to support the community and raise awareness of solar energy.”

The Run for the Sun 8K route will start and end near the Carrier Park picnic shelter.  Runners of all levels will enjoy the relatively flat route which follows trails and sidewalks, linking several parks along the French Broad River.  Runners can register online at http://firstlightsolar.com/run-for-the-sun2.html or call 828-350-3993.  Race day registration begins at 7 a.m. at the Carrier Park picnic shelter.

Timing services will be provided by Jus' Running.  Male and female runners finishing in the top 2 spots of each 10 year age bracket will be recognized at an awards ceremony.  All runners, regardless of placement, will receive a First Light Solar insulated travel coffee mug and bag of locally roasted coffee from Dynamite Roasting Company.
