Tax credits provide a significant incentive to develop solar energy systems. With the tax credits, solar hot water is generally a better financial option than paying for fossil fuels to heat water. By using our Solar Energy Purchase Agreement (SEPA) model, First LIght Solar owns the solar facility and claims the tax credits. With investment from project partners, First Light designs and installs a solar hot water system at minimal upfront cost. Then, we sell the measured BTUs from the solar system at a rate significantly less than the anticipated cost of natural gas, electricity, or propane.
